CCTV Survey vs Excavation: When No-Dig Drain Repairs Work in Kent

A CCTV drain survey is the first step to an accurate repair plan. The next question is almost always the same: do we have to dig the garden up? Modern no-dig techniques can restore a defective drain from the inside, with no excavation and minimal disruption.

When No-Dig Repairs Work

  • The pipe is structurally intact enough to accept a liner.
  • The defect is the right kind – cracks, fractures, displaced joints, root ingress points.
  • There are usable access points at either end.
  • The pipe diameter and material are within the range the lining system supports.

When Excavation Is Still Needed

  • The pipe has collapsed.
  • A long section of pipe is structurally failed.
  • The defect is at a connection or junction the liner cannot bridge.
  • The pipe is too deformed for the liner to follow.

How A CIPP Liner Is Installed

  1. The drain is cleaned and prepared internally.
  2. A flexible liner, impregnated with resin, is positioned at the access point.
  3. The liner is inverted or pulled into position so it lies snugly against the inside of the existing pipe.
  4. The liner is cured to harden the resin.
  5. A final CCTV inspection confirms the liner is correctly seated.

How Long Does A No-Dig Repair Last?

A well-installed CIPP liner has a design life comparable to a new pipe – typically several decades. A 50-year design life is widely cited in the industry.

Comparing Cost

When you include the cost of reinstating gardens, driveways and landscaping, no-dig is usually significantly cheaper and far less disruptive.
